Discuss and consider the addition of a street light at Davis Boulevard adjacent to Quail Hollow and Vaquero entrance and take appropriate action (Sean Kilbride, Mayor)

body

STAFF:  Sean Kilbride, Mayor

BACKGROUND:

This item was brought forward by Mayor Kilbride

DISCUSSION:

If traffic signalization is requested for any intersection, it is best practice to have a traffic signalization warrant study completed by an engineering firm to ensure that the traffic signal is needed.  This is particularly true for intersections along TXDOT owned roads and highways such as Davis Blvd.  At these intersections TXDOT requires a signalization warrant study be completed and the need must qualify by TXDOT standards.

Warrant studies look at a mixture of qualifications such as traffic counts, wait times at intersections and pedestrian crossings.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Warrant Studies cost between $10,000 to $15,000 to complete.  Cost for a 4 lane, 4 way traffic signal is approx. $500,000.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

If either Vaquero or Quail Hollow believe that their wait times are excessive and traffic counts are high, then the two HOA’s could partner to have the signal warrant study completed.  If the signal is warranted the Town would work with TXDOT to add the signal to the intersection.
