body
STAFF: Jason Power, IT Director
BACKGROUND:
As of May 5, 2023, Alyssa’s Law has passed in Texas (SB 838/HB 669). This law mandates that all school districts and open-enrollment charter schools in Texas have silent panic alert technology installed in their classrooms by the 2025-2026 school year. The technology must enable the schools to instantaneously communicate with authorized emergency services such as law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and health departments.
The Verkada Panic Button and Alarm System will fully integrate with the Verkada Camera and Access Control System previously approved by the Council for use at Westlake Academy. The complete system will provide integrated video security, door security, alarms, and monitoring to better assist staff and emergency responders in keeping the campus safe and secure.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The estimated total amount for the hardware, installation and 5 years of licensing, maintenance, and support is $70,536.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommend approval of WA Resolution 24-36.
